Anstatt die globalen Durchschnittswerte zu verwenden, „habe ich all diese verschiedenen firmeneigenen Datenbanken, die ich zerhacken und mischen und abgleichen kann, um eine genauere Zahl zu geben“, so Emitwise CEO und Mitbegründer Mauro Cozzi. „Ich bekomme hier genau die Zahl für diese Orange, je nachdem, wie weit sie zu Ihnen gekommen ist und wie Sie sie entsorgen wollen, und all diese verschiedenen Dinge“, sagt er.
Auf Veränderungen der CO2-Emissionen schnell reagieren
Die Plattform nutzt maschinelles Lernen, um Veränderungen der Emissionen von Tag zu Tag zu modellieren, so dass Unternehmen schneller auf andere Veränderungen reagieren können. Ein Kunde von Emitwise nutzte die Plattform zur Neugestaltung seiner Verpackung und stellte fest, dass eine Änderung des Verpackungsvolumens sich stärker auf die Emissionen auswirkte als die Umstellung auf ein anderes Material. Der Kunde wird auch alle seine Emissionen bis zum Ende des Jahres ausgleichen. „Das zeigt, wie schnell man handeln kann“, sagt Cozzi.
Um mit Emitwise zusammenarbeiten zu können, muss das Unternehmen zunächst seine Datenbank anpassen. Bei einem großen Autohersteller zum Beispiel musste dazu eine Lieferkette modelliert werden, die mehr als 100.000 Lieferanten umfasst. Aber mit der Zeit soll die Datenbank so weit wachsen, dass die Software „im Grunde die Emissionen jedes Unternehmens oder jeder Dienstleistung überall modellieren kann“, sagt er. Das ultimative Ziel ist es, jedem Unternehmen den Blick auf seinen Beitrag zum Klimawandel zu ermöglichen. Nur so kann schnell und ohne lange und kostspielige Zusammenarbeit mit Beratern reagiert werden.
